Located atop the 26-storey high Lagoon View condominium stands the Bedok Lighthouse, Singapore’s first fully automated and unmanned lighthouse.
Opened in 1978 to replace the now-defunct Fullerton Lighthouse, Bedok Lighthouse is the first ever lighthouse to be built on top of a residential building. It is also the only lighthouse not found on the shores or outlying islands of mainland Singapore.
At 76 metres above sea level, the lighthouse flashes its 600,000-candela light beam every five second and is purported to be visible for up to 42 kilometres!
In 2014, plans were made to replace the lighthouse with a new one atop the 25-storey high Block 3, Marina Terrace. However, it seems that the plan have stalled
As of 2020, the Bedok Lighthouse is still listed as a reference point for vessels to use in their ship report.
